For the Middag van het Kinderboek 2013 (“Children’s Books Afternoon”) we gave the audience coloured gloves: a left hand glove for the area they work in within the children’s book trade, and a right hand glove for the area they want to support. Using these gloves, we could run various activities during the afternoon where the visitors formed live statistics by raising their hands or shaking one another’s hands. We also presented infographics listing the shortages and surpluses of love within the field.
Because of the increasing levels of digitalization, the professional field of children’s books is under pressure. The relation between writers, illustrators, publishers and bookshops is also shifting, with all the tensions that go with it.
