Be with us

On the old town hall in Geert Wilders’s birthplace, Venlo, the words ZIJ MET ONS (“be with us”) could be found in neon on the façade. The words are derived from the famous text on the side of Dutch coins: GOD ZIJ MET ONS (“God be with us”). By leaving out the word GOD, the sentence acquires a whole new meaning, namely as an appeal to ‘be together’. This disrupts thinking in terms of ‘we’ and ‘them’ in a simple way. The work was exhibited from February to November 2010.
